Types of PoE Extension Solution
01-PoE NVR Extension
PoE NVR is a network video recorder with built-in PoE functionality. If you need to install an IP camera beyond 100 meters (328ft), you can add a PoE extender in the middle of the link. The PoE NVR will inject the power to the Ethernet cable and power up both the PoE Extender and the IP camera. You need to pick the 100% copper cable instead of the Copper Clad Aluminium (CCA) cable. The CCA cable will incur serious power loss, resulting in insufficient power reaching your IP camera.
02-500 Meters PoE with No Daisy Chain
Adding a PoE Extender is the simplest way to extend PoE over long distances. However, if the distance is beyond 200 meters, you’ll need to cascade multiple PoE extenders along the way, which inevitably increases points of failure, power loss and installation costs. Now, you can use our PoE extension kit to effortlessly extend the distance to 500 meters by using only two PoE extenders installed on both ends, which simplifies network management and maintenance.
03-High Power up to 500 Meters
If there is too much power loss and it can’t power up your IP cameras after a long run. You can choose the 60W PoE injector or long-range POE+ switch. The long-range PoE+ switch implements the power transmission over 4 twisted pairs in the UTP cable. All the twisted pairs are being taken to send the PoE power. It can supply 23.5W PoE power at 500 meters which is enough to power up an infrared PTZ camera.
04-Large PoE Deployment (Long Range PoE Switch)
If you are working on an IP camera project with large area coverage, you can use the long range PoE+ switch. While the CCTV mode is enabled, some POE ports can reach up to 250 meters (800ft) without involving PoE extenders. You can connect these IP cameras directly. The long-range PoE ports can reach up to 800 meters (2600ft) after adding a PoE extender to the end of the cable.
05-Turn Cisco Switch into Long Range PoE Switch
What if you don’t want to change the switch (e.g. Cisco switch), but you still need long range PoE? You can simply add PoE extenders to these specific PoE ports and extend the reach by an additional 100 meters. But the POE power budget is still the thing you need to consider. If the Cisco PoE Switch outputs only PoE+ 30W, you will have 8W at 500 meters.
06-Long Range 24V Passive PoE
In some scenarios, you might need to work with 24V Passive PoE devices, such as an IP camera or access point. It will not work if you place the PoE extender in a Passive PoE system since all the PoE Extenders use standard PoE (48V-57V). The workaround is you can add a converter to standard PoE to 24V passive PoE, and you need a standard PoE injector or switch to power up the whole system.
07-PoE & Surge Protection
Grounding the devices on both ends can improve the reliability of the long-range PoE system. The PoE surge protector is a dedicated device to protect the surge. You just need to add the surge protectors before the device you need to protect. It doesn’t require power and configuration. It is simply plug-and-play.
