PoE technology has revolutionized the way we deploy and manage network devices, enabling simultaneous power and data transmission through a single Ethernet cable. However, in hazardous environments or sprawling industrial facilities, the standard PoE range of 328ft (100m) may fall short. In this blog, we will explore the challenges associated with extending the PoE range over 1600ft and discuss the solution, namely long-range PoE switches.

Challenges of Deploying PoE in Hazardous Environments
The primary challenge in extending the PoE range beyond 1600ft lies in the limiting factor of distance. Traditional PoE switches can only transmit power and data within a maximum distance of 328ft. Attempting to exceed this limit can result in significant power loss and data degradation, rendering the network inefficient or non-functional. As the distance increases, power losses are exacerbated due to the inherent resistance of the Ethernet cables, which results in a diminished power supply at the end device, making it unsuitable for certain power-demanding devices such as IP cameras, access points, or industrial sensors. Many industrial environments, including flour mills, oil refineries, chemical plants, and mining sites, are considered hazardous due to the presence of combustible materials, excessive heat, or explosive atmospheres. Implementing PoE solutions in such environments often requires adhering to strict safety standards to prevent accidents and meet compliance regulations.

How to Extend Your PoE Range Safely in Industrial Applications?
To overcome these challenges and extend PoE over 1600ft in hazardous environments, the long-range PoE+ switch is a great solution for those looking for a hassle-free way to power and connect their devices. With just one Ethernet cable, you can provide both power and data connection, even in areas where AC outlets and networks are hard to come by. The long-range PoE+ switch is specifically designed to extend the PoE transmission range beyond the standard 328ft, spanning a distance of 1600ft or more, which ensures reliable power and data transmission for devices located far from the switch.

Why Does Long-Range PoE Switch Stand Out?
The long-range PoE switch provides a cost-effective way to extend your network over 1600ft without the need for expensive fiber optic cables and equipment. This is especially important for smaller businesses and organizations that may not have the budget for more expensive networking solutions. Unlike fiber optic cables, which can be difficult to install and require specialized knowledge, the long-range PoE+ switch is easy to install and can be configured quickly and easily. And Ethernet cables are known for their durability and can last for up to 10 years or even longer if well-maintained. Therefore, you won’t have to worry about replacing your cables or equipment anytime soon, saving you time and money in the long run. With the ability to control your devices remotely from a centralized point, you can manage your network more efficiently and effectively, without the need for deploying multiple PoE extenders for long cable runs.
Use 500M Long Range PoE+ Extension Kit for Safe Operation
If you’re looking for a reliable way to extend your PoE network in combustible industries, such as flour mills, gas and oil, and chemical manufacturing, then you wouldn’t want to miss this 500M long-range PoE+ extension kit. It offers an effective solution to extend your network up to 500M between two switches without adding any PoE extenders. To mitigate power losses over long distances, long-range PoE switches often provide higher power outputs. With PoE standards like IEEE 802.3at, these 4-port long-range PoE+ switches can deliver increased power levels (30W) to support devices with higher power requirements, eliminating any potential power-related issues.
By connecting two long-range PoE ports on separate switches, you can extend easily the PoE distance to 500 meters without involving any PoE extenders, which significantly reduces the failure points and electrical sparks along the way. And the data rate between them can still maintain at 100Mbps. Besides, since there’s only data transmission between two long-range switches, you can ensure safe operation in hazardous locations that contain combustible dust or flammable gases, such as flour mills, oil rigs, and gas-fired power plants.
Acknowledging the hazardous nature of the environment, these 4-port long-range PoE+ switches are manufactured to withstand extreme temperatures, vibrations, and other harsh conditions. Additionally, they can operate over a wide temperature range of 0°C~40°C and under the humidity of 10%~90% non-condensing. Moreover, they support 6KV carrier-grade protection on all PoE ports to prevent power surges caused by lightning strikes. The fan-less design also helps lower energy consumption and reduce operating noise. But these long-range PoE switches are only limited to indoor use as they’re neither waterproof nor dust-resistant.

Application
For any business owner, setting up a security camera system is a must. One of the main reasons is to ensure the safety of your employees and facility. By monitoring the environment with cameras, you can detect potential hazards and take steps to mitigate them before they cause harm. Additionally, a camera system can help prevent theft, vandalism, and other types of criminal activity, providing an added layer of security for your facility. Ultimately, a robust camera system can help you protect your business and ensure the safety of your employees and assets. Today, we’ll show you how to use the long-range PoE switches to install IP cameras over 1600ft.
Equipment You’ll Need:
1) a router, an NVR, and a monitor
2) 500M long-range PoE+ extension kit
3) short patch cords and Ethernet cables
4) various types of PoE cameras
How to Connect:
a. Connect NVR either HDMI or VGA port to the Monitor/TV;
b. Connect one end of a short patch cord to an available port on your router, and connect the other end of the cable to the LAN port on the NVR;
c. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the other LAN port on your router and connect the other end to the Uplink on the first 4-port long-range PoE+ switch;
d. Connect another Ethernet cable (1600ft) into the long-range port (#1-2) on the first switch and then connect the other end to the long-range port on the second long-range PoE+ switch.
e. Lastly, connect the IP cameras to the second switch.
